Breaking News: It’s Time to Trade Justin Herbert in Fantasy Football

Updated: Oct 25, 2023

Justin Herbert getting sacked by Micah Parsons in a 20-17 Chargers loss on Monday Night Football.

If you are a Justin Herbert fantasy owner it is officially time to be worried. Ever since his 405-yard performance against a lackluster Vikings secondary, Herbert has been on a steady decline ever since. Over the past three games where he faced the Raiders, Cowboys, and Chiefs, he has an average QBR of 49.6 and has been intercepted four times. Not only that but the Chargers have lost two straight games and now sit 14th in the AFC in front of only the Patriots and Broncos.

Two weeks ago when the Chargers faced the Cowboys, Justin Herbert had arguably the worst game of his career. He missed a wide-open Keenan Allen two separate times for likely walk-in touchdowns and threw a third-down interception at the end of the game that would make you think he had the Cowboys moneyline. He quite honestly was lucky to walk away from that game with 19.08 fantasy points but wasn’t so lucky this past weekend against the Chiefs where he scored just 10.86 points. His first four weeks which have included three rushing touchdowns are keeping his fantasy ranking high, however, if you have watched Justin Herbert over his most recent games you are most definitely concerned.

Coming down the pike Herbert faces a couple talented defenses. Next week he starts with the Bears who may have a poor record but have only allowed an average of just 17 points over their last three weeks, followed by two top-tier defenses in the Jets and Lions in the two weeks that follow. I would be shocked if he averages anything more than around 17 fantasy points per game over the next three weeks and I predict the Chargers as a team will continue to struggle.

That being said you might be asking yourself, why should a Justin Herbert fantasy owner care about the well-being of the Chargers? It’s because if the Chargers keep playing at this level, they are going to find themselves eliminated from playoff contention by the time fantasy playoffs roll around. If that happens, you better believe the organization will protect their 263 million-dollar man without any consideration for your fantasy team. So my advice to you Justin Herbert fantasy owners, trade him while his ranking is still high and go get yourself a Lamar Jackson, a Joe Burrow, or even a CJ Stroud, and let the next owner suffer the trials and tribulations that come with having Justin Herbert as their starting QB.
