Tyreek Hill: The Fantasy Football Gift That Keeps on Giving
Updated: Oct 25, 2023
Tyreek Hill running out of the tunnel on gameday.
Tyreek Hill is a truly remarkable football player, plain and simple. Hill is on pace to break the all-time record for receiving yards in a single season which is currently held by Calvin Johnson. Last season he was on pace to go over 2,000 yards for the season but that was stunted by an injury-riddled Tua Tagovailoa, yet he still finished with an amazing 119 receptions for 1,710 yards and 7 touchdowns. Through the first seven games of this season, he already has an immaculate 53 receptions for 902 yards and 7 touchdowns. Fantasy owners across the country, including myself, simply could not be any happier with his performance and it begs the question, is Tyreek Hill the best fantasy football player to draft since he entered the league in 2016? I think yes.
There is no taking away from the greatness of players like Christian McCaffrey, Justin Jefferson, Travis Kelce, and many more who have proven themselves to be superstars over the years. However, what Tyreek Hill has done since he came into the league has been sensational year in and year out, and up to this point in his career there hasn’t been much concern for missing time due to injury. In his first seven seasons in the league, he has played in a minimum of 15 games all but the year 2019, where he still played in 12. It’s also important to note that the year 2019 is the one full season of his time as an established wideout where he hasn’t surpassed over 1100 yards apart from his rookie year where he was more of a special teams player than a receiver. In full-point PPR leagues, he has three seasons with over 320 points on the year and five with more than 230 and in just seven games this season he already has 186.6 fantasy points.
There you have it folks, year in and year out Tyreek Hill is a star. Christian McCaffrey and Justin Jefferson are remarkable players, but McCaffrey always comes with that risk of injury which has broken the hearts of fantasy managers in the past. In his first three years, Jefferson has been everything and more that a fantasy manager could hope for, but he is now dealing with a hamstring injury that has him sidelined for multiple weeks which has sucked the life out of fantasy owners that are doing everything they can to avoid the shame that comes with not making your leagues playoffs amongst friends and family. That being said, Tyreek Hill is without doubt this year's best player fantasy player and there is no reason why he shouldn’t be anyone’s #1 pick in the draft next year.
As a current owner of Hill, I can happily say that he has single-handedly kept me in first place in my league with my best friends, whom I love to win over on a weekly basis. For those riding the Tyreek Hill fantasy football high this year, I say enjoy the gift that keeps on giving, and for those who land the first pick in their draft next year I say there should be no debate, if you’re not taking Tyreek Hill, you’re asking to feel regret, sadness, and any other negative emotions that come with passing up on him.
